ATCA's Winning Streak
byBrian WoodContinuous Computing, CP-TA Marketing Work Group Chair - Tue, Mar 16, 2010 at 12:00 PM

ATCA has been on a winning streak lately – and this is great news for all of us in the xTCA ecosystem. If you haven’t already seen the recent press releases, here are a few headlines, quotes and links for you to review:

1) March 16 – Alcatel-Lucent Reinforces Commitment to ATCA (http://is.gd/aKP72)

“Alcatel-Lucent today reinforced its commitment to Advanced Telecommunications Computing Architecture (ATCA) technology as the foundation for its next-generation telecommunication and application platforms…”

“ATCA specifications ensure support for high-speed networking technologies and next-generation processors, and provide for improved reliability, availability and serviceability in telecommunications and Internet equipment.”

“Alcatel-Lucent uses ATCA-based platforms in several key areas of its portfolio, in infrastructure designed to support wireless and wireline service providers, and a wide range of software-based applications.”

2) February 18 – “Huawei Bags ATCA-based IMS Solution Contract from Singapore’s M1” (http://is.gd/aIxpH)

“Huawei’s customized ATCA-based IMS solutions allow operators to achieve rapid network deployment and shorten time to market and support M1’s business transformation by providing subscribers with advanced multi-media services.”

3) February 17 – Datang Mobile Selects NetLogic Microsystems for Next-Generation LTE and TD-SCDMA Solutions (http://is.gd/aIxnO)

“Datang Mobile’s next-generation LTE and TD-SCDMA solutions are ATCA (Advanced Telecommunications Computing Architecture)-compliant…”

4) February 15 -- Nokia Siemens Networks Reduces Hardware Complexity (http://is.gd/aKP2s )

"By adapting its field-proven core network software to run on off-the-shelf ATCA hardware, Nokia Siemens Networks is allowing service providers to support a greater number of subscribers with a smaller equipment footprint and significant energy savings."

"By relying on open ATCA platforms, service providers can also combine several core network applications into one hardware rack, again helping reduce space requirements, and improving the management and maintenance of spare parts by having the same hardware used by multiple telecom applications."

And the list goes on and on.

The news speaks for itself: the xTCA seeds we’ve been planting in the past few years are starting to sprout.

The proverbial “garden” still needs our watering, weeding and pruning, but we can all celebrate the collective success that we’ve achieved so far.

Thanks for your good work; keep it up!

Onward and upward,
Brian
