In today’s serious economic environment it is hard to imagine allocating resources to participate in industry alliances like the Communications Platform Trade Alliance (CP-TA). But the current environment demands that we look beyond our internal organizations for opportunities to work together to advance and promote the COTS eco-system and principles that we depend on for our economic survival.

COTS platforms such as ATCA and MicroTCA have enjoyed significant success and have the potential for becoming the ubiquitous platform in the communications industry which would stimulate growth across the hardware and software eco-system. Participation in CP-TA offers an opportunity to work with peers and colleagues from across the industry to accelerate elimination of barriers to adoption, thus paving the way for additional significant growth.

Efforts such as interoperability testing, platform manageability, promotion of the technology, and influencing the future requires collaboration by all participants in the ecosystem: silicon, chassis, blades, firmware, software, and standards. In addition to advancing the technologies, CP-TA provides an opportunity to engage with the best-of-the-best in the industry and gain insight into the current state of the markets, customers, and suppliers.

CP-TA is a productive and stimulating environment that welcomes and encourages contributions from all corners of the industry, companies small and large, and individuals of all levels and disciplines. While resources are precious these days, CP-TA can help amplify those resources and ensure they are applied in the most effective and beneficial efforts to advance COTS communications platforms.
