Practice Makes Perfect

Today’s CompactPCI and AdvancedTCA Systems magazine features an excellent article called “Full-Dress Rehearsal Readies AdvancedTCA Systems.” What I really like about the piece is that it points out the wide variety of resources available at the component and system level to ease the task of ensuring an ATCA system works properly when it is placed into production. In addition to providing the “blueprints,” the PICMG specifications themselves offer tons of great resources and are an excellent place to start. Of course, we at CP-TA have taken those spec requirements one step further with our interoperability criteria and test procedures to ensure vendors are all on the same page and everyone’s components play nicely together.

There are tools available from such companies as Degree C and Flir to help with thermal integration and Polaris Networks for manageability. The more resources that are available for interoperability, integration and testing, the faster products will get to market at lower cost. And that’s really what it’s all about. As always, we would love to hear your thoughts.
